If the World Were a Village
If you are wanting to run a Music Unit for early primary years in the theme of 'If the World Were a Village'. Please feel free to use the following ideas and outlines I've created and see all the useful resources, blogs and references I've followed.
Inquiry Theme
Students will explore how music can be used as a tool to raise awareness about health issues and as a tool for self expression. They will learn that music can be used to improve peoples mood and wellbeing and how. During aural skills practise, they will appraise examples of how people express themselves through music and use their knowledge to create their own compositions which express themselves.

Task - If you were to create a village of people, how would it sound? What songs and stories would you hear? In groups of 2-3, Students create a village that shows a range of people's moods and wellbeing through the musical ways they express themselves. Students include themselves in this village. There will be at least 8 characters in the village. You will allocate the following amongst each of the characters: song lyrics, an instrument, a melody or musical mood. Present a short musical story to your classmates.
Musical Skills
Students will listen to and analyse a range of music that expresses a variety of emotions. They will learn how musical elements can arranged in a way to express wellbeing through pitch,, dynamics tempo and harmonies. They will learn major and minor chords on the ukulele and determine how the sounds create particular moods. They will create a musical story that represents the moods and feelings of their fictional characters and finally include a representation of themselves.
